I got my Car in June of 2016 and I have not changed the tires since. I was wondering how often you should get new tires or how to tell if they are worn out.

The recommended replacement of tires is 6 years however, if you don't drive much its difficult to wear them out in that time. One great method of checking for bad / worn tires is the quarter (25 cent) test. Take a Canadian quarter and place it in between the tread. For optimal tire performance you should have roughly 1/4 of the quarter remaining in the groove of the tread.
see example below:
There are other methods that indicate the tire(s) needing to be replaced:
- Check the DOT number on the sidewall of the tires. The last two digits represent the year of manufacture
- Tread gauge reading (4/32 winter, and 3/32 summer) anything below those numbers should be replaced immediately
- Severe inner / outer tread wear
- Side wall damage (ie. nail, glass, screw, etc)
- Tire bead separating issues. There are a few reasons of this occurring:
- Defective tire during manufacture
- Driving the tire on low psi for long periods of time can result in bead seperation
- Old aged tire
I hope this helps! XD
