How to fix P0480 Fan 1 Control Circuit - Replacing AC Condenser Fan
Introduction
Today I’ll be streamlining the process in fixing the error code P0480 Fan 1 Control Circuit which in my case is a faulty AC Condenser Fan. This diagnosis took into account a few different possibilities which I either replaced or checked:
- Coolant temp sensors (both upper and lower)
- Fuses (fuse diagrams are tough to find so I pretty much checked them all)
- And finally the smaller Condenser fan

Instructions:
Jack up the car and remove the skid plate under the front end of the vehicle. I have a How-To that explains this process.
Remove the Radiator Fan Assembly
To begin, you want to free the fan assembly and drop it out of the car. To do this, you will need to unplug the electrical harness and remove the 4 T-30 screws bolted on each corner of the assembly.
(Disregard the battery cover removed)

Unplug the electrical harness
To access the clip I had to rotate the connector in a counter-clockwise motion. Push the tab in (red arrow) with a flat blade screwdriver and you’ll hear a ‘click’ sound.
Free the lower radiator hose
Now your ready to drop the Radiator Fan Assembly
You’ll have to fiddle with the assembly to get it to drop down and the lower rad hose and AC hose will get in the way. Just gently push them out of the way.
Next, unplug the front electrical harness and pull out the harness from the assembly.
Rotate the harness counter-clockwise
Push the clip and you’ll hear a ‘click’ noise. Then with the harness disconnected, pull the cable out from the assembly like so:
Lastly, remove the three 10mm nuts
Finally, pull the old fan out
Installing the new fan
The fan I ordered has a piece of plastic that won’t fit into the original harness so you’ll need to cut and sand that off.
Now install the new fan
Follow this How-To in reverse order for re-assembly and don’t forget to plug in your electrical harness.
