How to remove the rear wiper motor from a 2008 Honda Odyssey
Introduction
Hello boys and aliens, today we'll be removing the rear wiper motor on a 2008 Honda Odyssey! These things are notorious for defecating the bed, so here's a guide on how to remove them.
Estimated Time: About 30 minutes.
Tools Required
- 10mm socket
- 23mm socket
- Phillips Screwdriver
- Ratcheting wrenches to use those sockets (Unless you got gorilla strength)
- A flathead or panel popping tool
Step 1: Outer Removal
First thing you're gonna do is remove the plastic cover on the wiper arm, and then remove the 10mm nut holding the arm on. Once the nut is off, give the arm a wiggle and twist and it should come off. They DO make tools for this. They like to get seized, so be careful.
Once the arm is off, remove the black plastic cover to expose the 23mm nut.
Take a look at this beauty! Only like, 15 years old and it's on it's way to becoming junk. This wiper motor was actually good and in amazing condition, despite the visuals before you. The customers wiper motor was corroded underneath the glass and it just did not work.
Remove that ugly 23mm nut. Worst case scenario, you will have to cut it off. The socket pictured is a 24mm socket, but it did work.
Look at that wonderful sight. You can slip that washer off as well.
Step 2: Inner removal
Open your tailgate and pop the cover from the handle. Remove the two bolts holding the cover on and then remove the cover. It pops off like most other Honda covers (no lifting up and over a hole, no funky clips)
Unplug the motor and remove the 3 10mm screws.
Easy peasy remove the 10mm squeezy.
Once both the screws and plug is removed from the wiper motor, simply pull it out of the glass. Take a look at how CLEAN the shaft housing is on this motor. Install is the reversal of removal, minus the potential swearing cause you stripped the 23mm nut. Happy Wrenching!
